"Determination"
The above sculpture is titled "Determination" and is in a clay master model form. It is a bas-relief sculpture (with three-dimensional aspects) to be cast in bronze, suitable for mounting on relatively flat surfaces. Example surfaces: indoor or outdoor walls. Farther down this page are detail images showing "Determination" from different angles. The image just below is an idea for a gate entryway for your home or business. "Determination" will be a powerful image to represent you as a first visual impact for your guests or clients. Peter C. Sedlow Associates creates the bronze sculpture for gates but does not fabricate the metal gates. Your local gate fabricator should be able to work with you on ideas or designs that, along with the sculpture "Determination", match your entryway in a personal way. The "Determination" sculpture will be cast in Bronze.

The image below shows "Determination" in it's clay master model form on it's wood easel. I'm in this image for size reference. Once "Determination" is cast in bronze the large wood easel will be removed. "Determination" will appear more as it does in the image at the top of this page.
The Artist's thoughts on this sculpture:
I've always wanted to create a sculpture that is both bas-relief and three dimensional. That's the concept behind the creation of "Determination". The heads are 3-D as well as the front legs and antlers closest to the viewer. The rest
of the sculpture is low to deep bas-relief. As you move from side to side it adds a different experience to a wall
mounted bronze.
Roosevelt Elk are the largest Elk in North America, with a range in the western states from northern California to Alaska. If these two bulls were enlarged to full size standing, they would be about eleven feet high to the top of their antlers with about eight foot long bodies.
The plants in this scene are native to my area of Southern Oregon as are the Roosevelt Elk. In the middle of this battle, just between the two front legs of the Elk on the right is a plant that is standing up and curling back into the fracas. This is an extremely endangered lily. It's botanical name is Fritillaria gentneri. I wanted to add it as a survivor, one more layer of "Determination".
While sculpting, I imagined this story:
These two Roosevelt bull Elk see only each other. They are giving no thoughts to anything else. They are so concentrated on the other they don't realize or care that the ground they're battling on has broken away from the rest of the Earth, their pounding and struggle is so powerful. You can see the stomped plants, ferns, vine maple and so on are covered in mud. The bushes and trees are shaking and blowing as if in a storm. The bodies are rippling and vibrating with the intensity of their determination. There is no end to this battle, no winner no loser. There is only the face each sees in front of their own face. This is who they are now and forever, a reflection of their souls, their genes created from their ancestors. This is "Determination".
While I was sculpting this scene, I let my imagination go wild. I could see these two giant Elk battling, floating on this piece of disengaged, broken land of rock, mud and roots, floating up beyond the sky, floating beyond our world, off into the darkness of space, among the stars creating their own constellation "Determination". These were my thoughts while sculpting this scene.
